This day has been creeping up on me. And it's finally here. And I'm more than a little afraid. But I've had it.
It's time for us to wean Delaney from her binkies (yes, she has not one, not two, but three of them). I can't understand a word that she says when she has a binky in her mouth and I am so, so sick of searching for the darn things all over the house and up and down the streets (yes, I have actually done that-many times).
So-our plan: Starting today, no more binkies outside of crib. At all. Whining-No binkies. Temper tantrum?-No binkies. Mommy desperately is trying to get something done?-No binkies. Delaney goes absolutely crazy for days on end-No binkies.
It certainly won't be pretty because God knows that Delaney has a much stronger will than Dave and I (and most of the world). She can wear anyone down. We should have known when we gave her the middle name 'Nevin' (after her great-grandmother) that she would be stubborn. But, she'll deal; I know that she can do it-but can we? YES.

Good luck with that! It's a tough process. When we did this, Mike took all of Shelby's binkies and threw them in a dumpster so I could go get them and give them to Shelby anyway! It only took a few days and it got a little better!!
good luck, We had Lexi off of them for 3 whole days until someone found one and gave it to her... now we are going through it again and has been much harder this time around. Make sure there are none hiding places and no others who will give in...
hey emily, good luck I had to go through that with my oldest Tyler. None of those cold turkey ideas worked for us cause he is very stubborn too I gave in so i could get some sleep. LOL The only thing that worked was a visual aid. since he is so stubborn it had to be at his will and his doing. I bought a really cute light up stuff animal to take over the job of comforting him. I than gave it to our dentist, for a couple days we talked about how he would take the binky into the dentist and trade it for a gift. once we tricked him into making that decision is was smooth sailing. he loved it and never looked back. Maybe she could give it to Chuck e Cheese or something dramatic like that so she wont forget. just a though. if shes stubborn like tyler let me tell ya its gonna have to be her idea. i learned that too with potty training. hope that helps. good luck.
